Day 14 - Salmon Fishing
We figured that as long as we were in Alaska we would have to go salmon fishing, but we quickly found out that we needed to go take another bus trip to get to good salmon fishing area. After 3 hours on the tour bus we reached Sterling Alaska where we got our licenses and meet our guide. We left right after lunch and went fishing for Sockeye salmon. There was a couple from Switzerland who had not fished before and then Roe and myself. The guide got us all setup and I quickly found out that we would be just casting with a weighted line and just a hook - no bait. Sockeye salmon don't feed when in the river and they swim up stream with their mouths open so you cast out, let it bounce along the bottom and pull it in hoping the fish swims into the hook. Well I got the 1st fish, then the guide got 3 then I got another one. In total 5 fish for about 14 lbs of meat. Another perfect day and a great way to end our trip.
