After 20 years of my friends going Grouse hunting in Michigan with me, we decided to go to South Dakota pheasent hunting. I still went to Michigan for a few days on my own, but as you can see we had a great time in SD.

Fall 2008 Hunting Trip

  • Early morning on the 1st day of hunting in South Dakota
  • This is the view looking out the front of the lodge.
  • We didn't suffer. This is the 'game room' with the dining hall in the back where it say's saloon. The 2 rooms to the left are Walter and Scot's bedrooms.
  • This is the other side of the 'game room' with the bar. The 2 rooms to the right are Mike Riley and my bedrooms.
  • Our 1st day hunt. We finished at about 11 am and had our limit of 5 birds each.
  • The 1st day they let us take our dogs to the field. They placed 2 of our morning birds in the brush to see if the our dogs could find them and retrieve them. Dutchess found both birds but Henry did the best on retrieving.

  • This is the other group of guys at the lodge with us. This is thier birds along with ours.
  • Dutch and Henry had to stay in the dog kennels that are at the lodge. We would go down in the afternoon and before dinner and let them run. This is the view from thier kennels and yes they are smelling pheasent. The pheasent would fly down and sit on the fence posts in the evening and morning.

  • This is my room
  • Each room has private bathrooms, except the ones on our side kept loosing hot water as it was windy and the wind would blow out the pilot light on our side of the lodge.
